I’ll be in Artists Alley, Tables N1-3, with pals like Andy Macdonald, Jared Fletcher and Ivan Brandon. I will have postcards, prints (a couple new ones!), and even some hardcovers and trades for sale. Wonder Woman #0 comes out this week! Here’s my original cover for the Zero issue. I was pretty far ahead on covers when I’d drawn this, so we were unaware of the “burst” design for all the Zero issues. I’d love to be able to reuse the cover, but it’s so story specific it wouldn’t have worked anywhere else.

Can you believe it’s here already? I’ll be there, at booth #1221, with my pals from Epic Proportions. We’ll have t-shirts, prints, postcards, and if I have the time, commissions. We’ll have to play it by ear!

I’ll also be hanging out at the DC booth, too, for signings and an art demo on Saturday. Here’s the DC schedule, and you can find me at my booth all other times.

Captain America propaganda poster concepts - 2011

Last year, a marketing firm contacted me about producing 3 propaganda posters to help promote the Captain America movie, and I whipped up these rough concept sketches for their pitch meeting with Paramount. They wanted a solo Cap poster, one with the Howling Commandos, and a Hydra recruitment poster. A fun exercise, though sadly the job didn’t happen. While I didn’t have the time for 3 finished pieces, I’d enlisted Jock and Dave Johnson to do the other 2 posters (with their own concepts) and I’m sure those would have been really spectacular.

This Wonder Woman piece will be auctioned by the San Antonio, TX chapter of Women Of Wonder Day on October 30, 2011, and proceeds will go to Domestic Violence programs. Previously called Wonder Woman Day, this annual event is now in its 6th year and has expanded to 3 cities. You can email your bids starting Saturday, and bidding rules are listed here.

NYCC 2011 starts tonight, and I’ll be at the VIP hour of The CBLDF Kickoff Party. Please come and support this important organization. As part of their membership drive and fundraising efforts, we’ll be auctioning the original art for this Wonder Woman piece later this month. Please note: this is one of only TWO Wonder Woman pieces of mine on the market at this time. (The other is for Women of Wonder Day, which I’ll show tomorrow.) I’ve been hearing some disturbing reports from other comics pros about difficulties with Canadian customs, but the CBLDF’s current case has huge ramifications for your right to privacy and free speech. From the CBLDF site:

This September, the CBLDF must contribute the first installment of the $150,000 in legal fees needed to defend Brandon X, an American citizen facing a minimum sentence of one year in Canadian prison and registration as a sex offender because Canada Customs alleges that Japanese horror and fantasy comics on Brandon’s laptop are child pornography. His case is important because it raises important precedent questions about the artistic merit of comics and the rights of readers and artists traveling with comics on their electronic devices. The CBLDF needs your help to pay the lawyers defending this case because we seek to establish a precedent that protects comics in Canada and influences courts in the United States.

Let me just underscore something here: they searched his laptop, they found digital comics and declared the material pornographic. I’m not comfortable with any of that, and if you agree, please consider joining the CBLDF.
